The price of a gallon of gas is poised to push higher. Wholesale gasoline prices are on the rise and the pump price is expected to creep closer to the $3-a-gallon mark. The nationwide average stands at about $2.85 a gallon, some 80 cents more than it was a year ago. Officials from the Wall Street investment bank Goldman Sachs are on Capitol Hill to answer questions from lawmakers about how they profited from the sub-prime mortgage meltdown. Emails from Goldman's CEO show the firm made money by betting against the same kinds of mortgage-backed securities that they were selling.
