The full impact of that oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico may not have surfaced yet. Scientists aboard a research vessel in the Gulf told the New York Times that giant plumes of oil up to 10 miles long and 300 feet thick are being found in deep water near where an offshore rig began leaking last month. The space shuttle Atlantis is on its final mission, delivering spare parts to restock the International Space Station as NASA winds down the shuttle program. Only two more flights are scheduled before the shuttle fleet is retired at the end of the year.
