After more than two months stranded nearly a mile below ground, rescue is now closer than ever for that group of Chilean miners. A two-foot wide escape tunnel that was completed over the weekend is being reinforced with steel pipe that will make it easier for a rescue capsule to move the miners one-by-one to freedom.
